What is art therapy?

I believe that creativity supports healing and growth.

Art therapy can provide opportunities to communicate feelings, thoughts, or memories that are hard to express verbally. It can give you insight into who you are. It can also help you visualize and move toward your goals. It can be a safe way to practice taking risks. It can be challenging and it can be fun.

Art therapy projects take many forms. In each session you have the choice of whether to talk about what it was like for you to make the artwork, and about what the finished artwork may suggest to you. You are the authority about what your artwork has to say, if anything.

If you are interested in doing so, we will find ways in which art therapy is a useful, rewarding approach for you.

You definitely don’t need to “be an artist”, or even be able to draw a straight line.
